BALTIMORE, September 28, 2018.
What would the world be like if more women were leading it? This October, the city of Baltimore will be activated to join the global coalition of women shaping the narrative for a more prosperous Haiti. The #SHE_BUILDS Global initiative, a community platform designed to be a bridge between Haitian women across the global diaspora and in Haiti, announced in August the launch of 14 inaugural chapters across the U.S, Caribbean, and Africa. Founded in June 2018 by Shaina Silva, a young Haitian American futurist based in San Francisco – the organization aims to be a catalyst in amplifying the voice of Haitian women leaders by building stronger connections and fostering collaboration across the community, and increasing women’s overall participation in the economic development of the nation.
Sabrina Dépestre, a first generation Haitian-American brand strategist, was nominated to lead as the chapter Ambassador for the Baltimore chapter of the global movement. “I’m most looking forward to carving out a space to amplify and support the local Haitian community here. Baltimore is thriving with entrepreneurs and founders of small businesses, and I’m excited to have a small piece in sharing our stories with the world.”
Dépestre’s leadership in the community has been demonstrated through her work on projects that amplify the stories of underrepresented people in industries such as tech, fitness, and health. Currently, she serves as the Growth Executive and Lead Strategist for Backroom, a brand experience agency based in Baltimore, strategist for the Baltimore Young Professionals, and is the co-creator of the #tanthemat campaign.
In celebration of the Baltimore activation, Dépestre will be joined by PJ Pierre-Jerome, a successful entrepreneur who has been creating empowering spaces for women through her Free Queen Collective business and happy hours. All are welcome to the city activation, which will take place on Oct 28th, 2018 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Impact Hub Baltimore. RSVP HERE https://bit.ly/2PYcpTu
