SB_San Francisco Featured Builder: Clorama Dorvilias, Founder of Debias VR


Clorama Dorvilias is Haitian and Eritrean, born and raised in San Jose, CA. She started her career in the public sector and transitioned into a UX technologist to advance traditional efforts for social impact. She has a B.S. degree in Political Science from Santa Clara University and attained her Master’s in Interaction Design at the University of Arts London in 2015 where she researched designed solutions using Virtual Reality applications to mitigate social biases in the workforce. Since then, she worked full-time as a UX Practitioner in 3 different countries, with her last role bringing her to San Francisco for a fellowship at Code for America, where she worked with local government practitioners to launch an app for low-income job seekers in Alaska. All this while also juggling a side gig building anti-bias VR apps for institutions expanding across in healthcare, education, law enforcement, and the workplace. She recently launched a start-up, Debias VR, after winning funding and partnership with Facebook/Oculus for her pilot VR project, “Teacher’s Lens”. Teacher’s Lens uses evidence-based game simulations for teachers to identify and reduce bias in the classrooms that negatively impact students of color success in education. Check out her presentation “Introduction to VR Industry: Emerging Market” – Link to presentation
