[Press] Festival Brings Together Women Entrepreneurs And Professionals To Discuss Future Of Haiti
On Aug.3, Haitian women from all over the world will congregate in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, for the inaugural #SHE_BUILDS_THEFUTURE FESTIVAL. They’ll have the opportunity to connect with emerging leaders, builders and innovators, all with the goal of accelerating Haiti’s social and economic development.
Speakers for the festival include Obama Foundation fellow and founder of Anseye pou Ayiti, Nedgine Paul Deroly; Senator Dieudonne Luma, the only female senator in Haiti’s 50th parliament; Rachel Hislop, editor in chief of the international media platform OkayAfrica; and Cristina Ramos a senior producer at the Oprah Winfrey Network.
“Haiti is at a turning point in its history,” said Shaina Silva, founder of #SHE_BUILDS Global Initiative, an initiative whose mission is to empower women, both in Haiti and the Diaspora, with the tools to scale their impact locally and globally. “After several decades of economic stagnation, and with 2020 marking the 10 year anniversary of the 2010 earthquake, we have an opportunity today to contribute to a RENAISSANCE MOVEMENT, with women at the forefront.”
With a diverse group of industries represented, including women in sports, fashion, media, art, government, health, and education, the festival is one of the top destinations for women who are bringing new life into outdated systems, and building platforms for the future.
